History
One Kids Place (OKP) is a charitable, non-profit organization.
In March 1997, a task force was struck to look at health care services for children within the North Bay, Parry Sound, Muskoka and Timiskaming areas. There was a great need to bring “fragmented” children’s services under one umbrella.
In 2002, the Ontario Government of the day approved the establishment of the 20th Children’s Treatment Centre for the province in North Bay Ontario.
By November 2004 provincial approval was granted to move ahead with the plan to have three services designed to meet the needs of local children housed under one roof at an interim location. These services included the North Bay General Hospital’s (NBGH) Children’s Rehabilitation Services program, Health Services from Integrated Services for Northern Children (ISNC) and the North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit’s (NBPSDHU) Pre-school Speech Services. The North East Community Care Access Centre’s (NECCAC) Paediatric Case Management and School Health Supports Services Programs are co-located within the One Kids Place location. The leadership demonstrated by the Boards, staff of OKP, NBGH, NBPSDHU and NECCAC has resulted in one door for parents, their child and youth to access a range of services.
At this present time, One Kids Place continues to strive for excellence by further planning for services and developing a permanent site that will meet the needs of children, youth and their families. We look forward to the anticipated completion of our new permanent One Kids Place Centre in 2009.
Quality of Service is a Priority
